An Australian breed developed from Black Orpington stock, the Australorp is smaller than Orpingtons and has a trimmer appearance. An Australorp hen holds the world record by laying 364 eggs in 365 days.
An excellent dual purpose bird . Hens will lay an average of 200 eggs per year. Eggs are brown tinted. They are active birds and have a dark greenish sheen. Mature roosters average 5 1/2-6 lbs. and hens 5 lbs.
